At The Bishops’ School we are committed to supporting our children to become life-long readers. We aim to develop their reading skills and comprehension alongside their love and passion for reading. We believe that reading is the key to becoming independent learners and living life fully.
We do this by:
· Investing in high quality reading books, picture books and library books for all ages
· Teaching ‘Whole Class Reading’ sessions to delve deeper into a text and develop vocabulary and comprehension
· Teaching daily phonics to all Foundation Stage and Key Stage One children
. Reading regularly to our classes
· Supporting parents in the early stages of reading (including phonics)
· Setting termly ‘Reading Challenges’ for all of our pupils
· Sharing recommended reading lists with all children and parents
· Hearing children read regularly
· Celebrating ‘Star Readers’
